Friday Flip-Off's 7/22/11

Since MommaKiss is off walking in the Susan G Komen 3 day in this blistering heat I’m gonna take the helm and host the Flip Off’s this week (assuming nobody else has yet)

Um, Hello Heatwave O_o It’s 101° outside. I will not complain about the heat... The humidity is like 110% and it’s really hard to breathe outside.  I got to the office at 8:15 this morning and haven't been back outside since.  we literally walked into the building and let out a collective sigh this morning, it was 85° when I got up at 6:20 this morning.  Good thing the Lobby shop here has sandwiches and salads now :)

Now, to Flip things off..

Moving is a BITCH.  My cousin and her hubby helped me Last Saturday night around 5 and we packed as much into the van as we could, The Kid and I took another run after we unloaded the van and my cousin her hubs left and then again on Sunday but there’s only so much I can shove in the back of my truck so even though I took Monday off to vacuum the old place and pack up all the stuff I had to donate I’ve still been running back and forth for the past few days grabbing as much as I can.  I’m almost done though.  Then I’ll hand over the keys and say so long to the Asshats forever.

I really really LOVE my new place though.. It’s so nice to not be awakened by a little dog that barks at every little noise, no stomping overhead, no crazy music till all hours of the morning, no blasting TV over my head, no stifling heat because that place had no air and tiny windows, no screaming people upstairs.  It’s just very peaceful and I love it. Not to mention all the glorious space.  This place is HUGE compared to my old place.

I went grocery shopping the other night just to grab a few things to hold us over until I do the big grocery shopping tonight and I would like to flip off the person who thought it was a good idea to make EVERYTHING Italian bread.. I went and grabbed a loaf of Italian bread to have with the Giambotta I was making for dinner and didn’t realize it until I got home that it wasn’t plain.. This shit even had poppyseeds inside.. Ugh.  The kid liked it... but for me poppyseeds wreak havoc so I had to skip it and I made myself some pastina instead.

I have to say all in all it’s been a pretty decent week, despite the heat and the moving shit.

Now, come on.. I know y’all have at least one thing you want to flip off this week..

My Coffee Maker Broke and why I may never shop at Walmart again

My BHG Grind & brew coffee maker decided that as soon as I moved to my new apartment it didn't feel like working anymore.  I'm guessing it was just mad that I brought the old Senseo and the espresso maker with the broken frother to the donation place yesterday.  I was beside myself.. really?  No coffee at all? There's gotta be a law against that or something.  I tried everything I could think of.. and when nothing worked I did what anyone would do.. I called the BHG customer service line.. but it was already 9pm EST so they were closed.  So I coughed up $4.25 for a latte at Starbucks this morning (Seriously.Insane, a pound of Starbucks Espresso beans that lasts me 2 weeks costs me $9, but anyway...) when I got to work I went and called the BHG helpline again and got a very nice girl on the line who told me "Oh, well, we don't have any troubleshooting for that issue"  I got a little freaked.  My response was.. well? What do I do now?  This machine is only 3 months old.  She was very nice and told me that all BHG products have a lifetime warranty so just bring it on over to Walmart and you can exchange it for a new one.

Ok, I'll bite.  I was really apprehensive though because with my past ONE time I went to Walmart Customer service because the cashier forgot to give me a bag of stuff I had bought I was treated like I was trying to swindle them.  I don't know if a pissy attitude is prerequisite to work at Walmart but Really, if you're working with the public put on a smile and get on with it, you're being paid to be Helpful to the public.

I went and picked up the kid from camp, ran home to get the coffee maker and after work I went and took the machine back to Walmart.  I initially asked the greeter if I should go get a new machine fist or just go to the CS desk.. she said to go the CS desk first because without a box or receipt she wasn't sure what was going to happen.. ok, fine.

I get to CS and I'm told by the women there checking the things in the cart that I'm trying to EXCHANGE this product?? Um, yeah, it's not powering on and so I called BHG and they told me since they're EXCLUSIVELY LICENSED with y'all and they have a lifetime guarantee it wouldn't be a problem.  She told me to put the machine on the counter and go get a new one.  I ran and grabbed The very last one off the shelf and then when I went back to CS the lady that "rang me up"  was Beyond nasty.  "Take the thing out of the box and put the old one in there, No you CAN NOT keep the paperwork!" Okok.. here's my license, I've never returned anything to Walmart ever before, I swear.  Three people were working on this. .like I was stealing it.  I kept getting " You have no box? No Receipt?"  No.. it WAS A GIFT and I got it THREE MONTHS ago so no to both.

After a good 10 minutes I finally left with a coffee maker wrapped in nothing but the plastic covering it had in the box.  I picked up a few little things and then checked out.. with a cashier who didn't even bother turning the bag carousel let alone hand over the 3 little things in the ONE bag that I had.. nor did she bother to say anything to me when she handed me the receipt because she was too busy chatting with her co worker.

Yeah.. that's what I call service.  *rolleyes*

I worked in those jobs when I was in high school and before Kiddo was born.. I still deal with people all day every day.. I smile and make nice and Never let on when I'm having a bad day.

I think I'd rather shop at Target.. which is literally across the parking lot.

My Love for you Transcends the whole Universe...

Years ago I got a card from my mom that said “My Love for you Transcends the whole Universe, no wonder I’m a little spaced” If you knew my mom you would understand it was right up her alley... I actually think I might still have that card. Actually I really hope that I still do. My mom loved with everything she had, she would give you her last dollar if you asked and wouldn’t think twice before giving you the coat off her back in the middle of winter. My mom was a friend to anyone and everyone no matter what.

My mom had an incredible spirit and a love for life despite everything she had been through.

My mom would have been 60 today... she’s been gone for 16 years and there are no words to describe how much I miss her. Sometimes I feel like I’m forgetting her.. But then something happens and I’ll hear her voice in a dream or I’ll catch a whiff of her perfume. As I was packing the other day I found a t-shirt I have of hers that was hanging on a hanger in the back of the closet and I held it close.... and it still smelled like her. I just smiled and held it a little longer before I folded it up and put it into the basket with the rest of my clothes.

If you’re lucky enough to still have your parents.. Love them because you never know how much time you have left with them, grandparents too.. I don’t have either anymore and if you know me... I am very willing to sort of adopt parents as my own.

That’s my little PSA of the day...

Happy Birthday in Heaven to My mommy.. My Love for Her transcends the whole universe.

I confess, I cheated

But I realllly wanted cheesecake, it's too hot to turn the oven on.. and anyway I said I wasn't using the oven anymore since I scrubbed that sucker clean last Sunday.

I went to the supermarket with The Kid the other night and upon perusing the dairy aisle I saw it. Philadelphia cheesecake filling .. I looked at it, I looked at The Kid and I grabbed the scanner (I love Stop & Shop with the handy scanners so you can scan & bag while you shop and checkout is a Breeze!) I said to the kid, if it's under $5 I'm getting it.. it was $4.99 BINGO!

It's good, Not great, but it worked to satisfy the cheesecake craving without having to spend $3.99 just for a slice. It's high in fat so I am satisfied by just having a heaping spoonful spread on a few graham crackers and I can imagine it would be heavenly with fruit.

I actually have some Push Pop containers that I bought from my buddy Vanna @ QueenVanna Creations and I'm going to layer them with some graham crackers, cheesecake filling and chocolate chips and Freeze them.. Yummy!!!

I'm moving next Saturday so my posts will be slightly scattered between then and next Sunday when I get my internet hooked up at the new place (Gotta Love Cablevision for coming to do a hookup on Sunday so I don't have to lose a day of work on Monday!)

Friday Flip Off's 7/8/11

MommaKiss is at it again.. Back with the Friday Flip off Link up I ❤ her (BTW, if you don’t know MommaKiss she’s doing the Susan G. Komen Walk for Breast Cancer in a few weeks why not check out her page and donate to the cause, I did :) )

So.. Lets see.. It’s July 7, 2011 What should I flip off this week?

LIARS.. My First flip off goes to Liars. Eventually when you lie it will come around and bite you in the ass.. And Karma, she’s a real bitch. Be prepared.

Packing can totally be flipped off. I’m moving next weekend (W00t!) Even though I don’t have a shit-ton of stuff to move.. It’s the 6 years of crap that I’ve been going through, sorting, donating and throwing out that’s been the biggest pain in my ass.

The other day I was doing the closet and when I went to pick up a shirt that had fallen off a hanger it was covered in mildew.. I picked it up, tossed it in the trash and closed the closet back up. I have to now to go home depot to get some dust masks so I can finish the closet, throw out everything that has mildew on it and pray that the books that are in there are all OK.

My current LL is an asswad and I don’t even know why there is any moisture in this closet when it’s in the middle of the house. I can’t wait to finally be out of this house and flip them off for good.

Hagen  who is the maker of my aquarium filter can be flipped off for making shitty products. This filter is 4 years old and it’s constantly giving me a headache.. It works fine then it stops and the aquarium gets all nasty and then it makes these awful grinding noises.. It’s annoying.. Its so annoying to wake up in the middle of the night because your aquarium filter is making so much noise it wakes you out of a sound sleep. I intend to replace it.... eventually when I have the funds to do so.. And not go with them again.  Next time around I'm going with this baby

Jeez I'm such a slacker

I have been so busy with the apartment search and shit going on in my life that I have totally skipped blogging about food.. but no worries I'll be back to it soon enough.. like, maybe later today or tomorrow.  I already scrubbed my oven clean so no more baking until I move, but I do still have these cute push pop molds that I haven't used yet.. so Ice cream shall be in order this week.  I'm thinking a nice chocolate ice cream with peanut butter swirl or something like that.. or maybe I'll make Kulfi in them.. Hmm.. Mmmmm cardamom & pistachios.. or no bake cheesecake Oh boy.. Look what I've just gotten myself into...

Now I have to go recipe searching..

It's Official!

No, I haven't lost my mind.. yet.

I Got the apartment!!!! Signed my lease this morning and I move in on the 16th!

I got the call yesterday afternoon while I was at the beach with the bestie & the Kidlets :)

I was so excited I could have cried, but instead I did a little bit of OHMYGODIGOTTHEAPARTMENT!!!  And many thanks to the homeowners for being so nice and really considering us first over all the other people that wanted the apartment. (when I went to see it the first time I was 5th on the list.. but I won them over with the cute kid and my amazing charm ;o) )

Really I'm so incredibly happy to finally get out of this house and finally into a nice quiet place with no BS.  And the kitchen.. OH MY GOD The kitchen.. is HUGE compared with what I've got here.. it's even got a huge pantry which is so amazingly sweet.

Starting a new chapter of my life.. not exactly as I wanted it to be, but I got a Great new place... a really Great new place in a great neighborhood.  The rest will come in time...

Now.. it's really time to start packing!!!

My week in Brief

This week started off well enough.. Monday was fine, Tuesday I found a wonderful apartment with great people in a great neighborhood and I told my LL that I was moving on Wednesday morning...

Then, on Wednesday night as usual the shit hit the fan when the homeowner of the new apartment told me that the current tenant doesn’t want to move out and I’m still waiting to hear from him if she’s going to reconsider.. He’s got until Tuesday and then I’ve gotta find something else since I already told My LL that I’ll be out by the first of August and I know he’s not going to give me any extra time.

Yesterday The Kid and I went to see Transformers: Dark of the Moon.. Unbelievably amazing! Best movie I’ve seen in a long time! I highly recommend going to see it.. Every minute of that movie was amazingly unbelievable.

Today I get into work and find out that one of the nicest clients we have just died =( He was a super nice guy and I am so sad and feel so sorry for his family who now have to try and deal with his unexpected passing.

I’m hoping this week gets better before it’s over because it’s been a roller coaster and I need things to look up. I need to find a nice place to live if this tenant isn’t willing to reconsider her previous arrangements. I see it this way.. She gave the guy 2 weeks before he put the ad up that the apartment was available so you’ve gotta go. I’ve already committed myself to this place.. And I want it So badly.. It’s such a beautiful apartment and I’ve really got my heart set on it. *sigh*
