Cooking on a Budget, day 4

I was unbelievably happy when I realized that I had venison in my fridge late on Sunday night.  One of my co-workers gave it to me from her hubby, he's a hunter and they're the only two in the house who will eat it so he's nice enough to share a little with me.

Not many people like venison, but it's something I ate every so often growing up and thankfully the kid likes it too.

Last night when I got home from work I took 2 venison steaks out of the freezer and let them thaw out in the fridge for a few hours.  Before I went to bed I cut the partially thawed steaks into cubes, seasoned them with salt and pepper and let them sit in the bowl for a while as I cubed up a few medium sized red potatoes, 2 carrots, one celery stalk, 1/4 of a large white onion and half a Roma tomato. I tossed the veggies onto the bottom of the crock pot and the meat went on top, cover on and cooked it overnight (about 6 hours)
